Fall and winter is the best time for hats! Literally any hat you can rock. Fall hats are usually categorized as felt hats, fedoras, berets, floppy hats, cabby hats, felt western hats, and beanies. I have a separate blog post all about beanies for women and the different types of beanies.
I have picked out some affordable fall hats from Target and Nordstrom with different styles to rock.
Different Felt Hat Styles
Western
A Western or Cowboy Hat has a tall rounded crown and wide flat brim and has creasing of the crown and the rolling of the Brim. If it’s a real cowboy hat you can get this customization for you.
However, if you buy a western-inspired style hat from Target or Nordstrom, they are already shaped in some way.

Fedora
Fedora’s have a soft brim and indented crown. It is typically creased lengthwise down the crown and “pinched” near the front on both sides.
These are the most common hat you will find around the fall time.
Cloche
Cloche hats remind me of the 1920s. They are close-fitting, helmet-shaped hats that hug your head. They have deep rounded crowns with no brim or just a small curve at the edge.
Wear it so it comes low over the forehead and at the nape of the neck.
Bowler
Bowler hats are hard felt with a rounded crown.
You wear it over your entire head across the brow and should fit tightly to your head.
Hat Accessories
Year after year stores come out with new hats but sometimes they look very similar. Don’t feel like you need to buy another black fedora hat every season when you already have 3 in your closet.
Instead, get a new scarf, hatband, or hatpin to add to the hat to switch it up.
Scarves and hatbands look amazing on fedoras, Panama hats, and western felt hats.
Hatpins look the best on cabby hats and berets.
Target Fall Hats
The majority of my hats are from Target because they are affordable, cute, good quality, and the felt hats are adjustable!
Nordstrom Felt Hats
Nordstrom can be pricey but I found some really good fall hats most are under $35. I included some different styles than just the typical fedora or Panama style to give you some idea to try.
I have a bowler and boater hat that I usually wear the most but my boater hat is straw so it fits more for the summertime. This grey felt one listed below is an adorable fall boater hat option!
Other Affordable Fall Hats
This round-up is made up of mainly fedora and slightly western-style hats. They can be found from Walmart and Amazon. AND they are ALL adjustable!
The hats below have cute bands. However, you might have to gently unglue or cut some strings so you can switch up the look. Or add a designer scarf to a Walmart hat to get the designer look for slightly less.
