How To Curl Your Hair and Make it Last

There are SO many ways you can curl your hair. I have tried a lot in my lifetime. Different techniques, different types of curling irons, with or without product, holding for different lengths of time, you name it. But with this technique, I am showing how to curl your hair and make the curls last for days!

**If your hair is hard to curl, check out this post for my tips and tricks.

So, let’s get into the technique!

REMEMBER, this is for curly hair, not for waves. If you want to know how to wave your hair with a straightener, check out this video I have done in the past.

Before we start, I have a video you can watch to make the steps a little easier to understand AND here are some tips to start with.

Tips

  • Hold your curling iron vertically
  • Take vertical sections of hair to curl
  • Curl all hair away from your face
  • Section your hair in half if you have a lot of hair

The Curling Technique:

  1. By holding the curling iron vertically, clamp the iron in the middle of the piece of hair you are going to curl, and twist one full twist away from your face.
  2. Once you do a full twist, lightly release the clamp to twist more of your hair around the barrel away from your face.
  3. Repeat step 2 until you get down to the bottom of the hair
  4. Hold all the hair now fully wrapped around the iron for about 10 secs or longer if your hair is hard to curl or if it is a thicker piece. REMINDER: don’t hold for too long on your hair. If you are holding longer than 20 secs, use smaller sections.
  5. Repeat the steps above for your whole head.
  6. If you want to curl your front pieces or bands, take a very small section and barely hold it on the hair. Like 3 sections so they aren’t so curly but more subtle.
